Forget the time in the old-fashioned dining room where time has stopped, and let the flowers bloom.

“Pictures of the shop? Sure! Take as many as you like! The shop sign is kind of faded, but that’s fine, right?”
With a bright smile, the owner of the shop, Kanemoto-san, answered. The shop was first managed by his mother for about 25 years, until it was succeeded by Kanemoto-san himself, who has been running it for about 20 years. In total, the shop has been around for 45 years.

The shop sign isn’t the only thing that shows signs of age.
Having a history of losing one of its walls during a typhoon, the building is well over 70 years old.
There’s also the age-old menu handed down from the owner’s mother.
The restaurant is full of things that remind you of its old age.

“We did recently raise the prices on our menu, however, despite having kept our dishes below 500 yen for a long time. It was very difficult to tell our regular customers when we raised our prices. And yet, they were very welcoming about it, and they still come back. We are very grateful.” says Kanemoto-san.
Even though it must have been a painful decision after continuing the shop for such a long time, the customers from the area must have also wished for the shop to stay by them.

The dish brought to me was huge in portion, and, despite being called a home-style meal, it was remarkably flavorful. It reminded me of the years of experience that went into making it.

By the way, the shop’s most popular menu is “tempura (deep-fried dishes)”.
The restaurant is, in fact, most well known for being a tempura restaurant, as some customers are often surprised after finding out about the shop’s set meals.

“Some customers say the shop’s been walking a tightrope (laughs). I do sometimes think about what I would have been doing if I had taken a different path…but I always remind myself that this is my right path. I myself became very cheerful after I started working here, and I very much enjoy and cherish the relationships and conversations I have with my customers, who are sometimes grandpas and grandmas” says Kanemoto-san. I was able to hear many stories from him of his encounters and memories with many of his customers. How about tasting his “mother’s flavors” while having a fun time conversing?
